How to make a splatter effect on fabric, and dye it easily

Postby Mistrust on Sun Feb 12, 2012 9:53 pm

I created this tutorial to create a splatter effect on fabric. I used red paint to create a blood splatter effect, but it dried pinkish, If you try this, be sure to use a bright red, and about 1.5 tbs of paint per 5 inches of water

I got my spray bottle at the dollar tree, and for plastic I used grocery bags. It worked really great! This is *by far* the easiest, and cleanest, dying method I have ever used. I also tried making some fabric more solidly colored by misting it, and it turned out great! Anyone who has ever gotten acrylic paint on their clothes knows that this is NOT coming out. The only downside is that the paint makes your fabric feel a little stiff, but for my projects this isn't an issue.

And I guess I should mention that I used cotton fabric.

This is awesome and I am so going to try it. I'm thinking bedspread or shower curtain! To make it a little easier even, you could just squirt your paint into the spray bottle, then add the water, and mix it in the bottle.
Who sent me a turd in the mail?

I wouldn't do it that way, just because the paint I used was so thick and gloopy. I'd definitely recommend thinning it a little bit first.

You could do gray or a kind of yucky color sprayed onto cheesecloth for creepy Halloween decor
