all I know about rosetta stone is that I wanted to buy it to improve my russian, and when I looked it up, it said something like "russian is very difficult to learn as it has 5 cases." well russian has 6 cases, not 5, so I didn't buy it.

but I hear it does work, and it might be perfect for danish. however, I'm a firm believer in actual classes with real techers.

^^i was thinking of that, like going to college because they proberly do exchange trips out there and stuff but my local college does'nt do any Danish lanuage courses and i dont really want to move there to learn it not being able to speak a word.
But the cheaper "learn a lanuage" ones dont really have good reviews mostly teach numbers, alphabet and body parts?

i pirated rosetta stone...works pretty well so far, but it's kind of annoying because there's absolutely no english in it. i understand it helps you learn more, but a dictionary with english translations of things would help.

The fact that it doesn't have any english in it probably means it works a lot better.
I have heard it's harder to get immersed in a language if you learn to think through translations and that is probably the reasoning behind them not putting english into the videos.

my roommate recommended livemocha.com instead of rosetta stone. he said it's basically rosetta stone but free.

also it sets you up with like.. native speakers of the language so you can have conversations with them and get feedback on your language skills, you write compositions and get feedback from native speakers, etc.

I use Rosetta Stone for German and I LOVE it!! It is a bit expensive but if it's something you really wanna do and have the money, i'd def. recommend getting it. The program starts you off slow then gradually works you into typing, reading, then speaking into a microphone (if you have one) to make sure your pronunciation is right..it's awesome. I have nothing but good things to say about it ;)
If you don't have anything nice to say, Say it anyways!

^^GAH! Your signature made me think there was a bug on my compy...so I tried to squish it (yeah, yeah, I know, call PETA on me) and then I thought it was somehow under my screen...well played. I need more sleep.

I don't know if this applies to the situation, but community cultural centres often have language groups and listings for language teachers. The groups in my centre are free and pretty low-key, and most people are happy to help others learn.

I like Live Mocha and use it to keep on top of grammar rules and things like that, but I think the best way to learn and practice is to speak with a real person. Plus, those 'learn a language' sets can be a little mechanical...you might technically learn how to say something, but that doesn't mean it's how a native speaker would say it.
