I just finished making a clasp for a pacifier holder. Thought I'd share it here!

That is supercute! I'd be careful making too much stuff for pacifiers though, some babies won't take them at all. My son wouldn't, so every paci I bought went to waste and while they were cheap enough, I could've spent the money on something else.

"if you plan to breast feed, get a good cream. called Bag Cream, in a green tin box. "

Image

Is NOT for breastfeeding HUMAN mothers to place on there nipples.

on 3 sides of the tin it is written to explain this is for pets ,chapped skin and mostly for milking cows to keep there nipples from cracking and bleeding , yes you as a HUMAN can use this on your body for chapped skin , NOT on your lips and never on your nipples if you are breastfeeding (unless told by a medical professional)

it states on a side of the tin:

"for chapped conditions and superficial abrasions. after each milking, apply thoroughly and allow coating to remain on surface.
this protective ointment helps to keep superficial tissue moist and soft.
incase of deep or puncture wounds seek medical help.
discontinue use if rash or irritation occurs.
keep this , and all medications, AWAY FROM CHILDREN."

there is a nipple cream that is backed by the la lache league called :

LANOLIN NIPPLE CREAM

Image

"Experience soothing relief with this pure healing cream, the only topical endorsed by La Leche League. Hypoallergenic and completely natural, Lansinoh does not have to be removed prior to breastfeeding.

Medical-grade 100 percent ultra-pure lanolin soothes and helps heal cracked nipples.
One 2-ounce tube
Safe and non-toxic for mother and baby
The only product endorsed by LaLeche League International"

which can be applied and then with out having wipe or wash off your nipple can safely nurse your baby.
I used it for 2 1/2 years while successfully breastfeeding my daughter it can be found at Wal-Mart.

Good to know! Thanks for that Spitfire! I've been browsing nipple creams, I haven't seen the green tin "Bag Cream" anywhere so I never checked it out. Now I know not to continue looking for it.

Being from a farmer's family, we use that stuff for everything. I'm not sure if it's dangerous.

So many people use udder cream that there are now several types of udder cream specially made for people, not cows. One of them is the brand Udderly Smooth.

My family used it also for everything, and I also have it in my medicine cabinet to use on my own family but have never ever used it on nipples while breastfeeding...on the actual tin it does say as stated above "keep away from children"

Think about it if a child sees something that looks edible they are going to put it in there mouths and it will most likely make them sick, so why in gods name would you put it on a part of your body that will enter a Childs mouth, even if you wipe it off it still has that smell and feeling to it. The smell alone may turn baby off from nursing.

I don’t know I guess it’s just a matter of common sense.

Ok, I have a new question now. Baby Bottles. What kind do you moms prefer? I've found it a bit daunting since they all seem to have their special nipples and shapes and say that their systems prevent collic, blah blah blah. I got a free playtex bottle when I was at the maternity store with the drop in system, but using this one seems like just an extra expense having to buy the bags for it. So, what has been your favorite and why? Are there really any noticeable differences with different bottles?

From my own experience and what I have heard from other moms, the baby may have a preference on the bottle and the nipple. My daughter refused to use the plastic liner bottles and some nipples went the same way. It took me a while to figure out which to use. I don't know if this is typical or not though

yeah, I'm guessing I should just get a few different types of bottles and just see which one works best.

I had my ultrasound, it's a boy!

If you're going to have a baby shower then don't spend your money on diapers....let other people spend theirs.
I had three showers and at two of them the hostess printed on the invitations "bring a package of diapers to be entered into a raffle" Seriously, my baby is 3 1/2 months old and I have yet to buy diapers for her and we still have 4 packages left.

I personally wouldn't buy anything myself until after the baby showers unless I just couldn't pass it up.

So far as a diaper bag goes, you only really need a bigger one in the beginning when they require a lot of crap or you are out all day. For the most part all you will really need is a few diapers, wipes, bib, bottle/food and change of clothes. I have a small case that holds wipes and a couple diapers that I use all the time for quick trips. Otherwise, a smaller bag will get the most use. Best features, zip top so nothing falls out, front closing pocket to keep stuff like vaccine record, or your stuff and side pockets big enough to fit a bottle or a few pacifies since that's the stuff you will reach for most.

I am no where near motherhood but I just thought I'd mention that Target.com has a registry for practically anything and you can set a registry up for your baby shower there in case some people can't get to specific baby stores.
