TUTORIAL - Brown Colored Smokey Eyes

Postby Sonya on Sun Dec 24, 2006 2:28 am

First things first, this is cross-posted with THIS thread.

OK... kinda skewed since I normally use blacks/pewters/greys with smokey eyes, but I think I got it. LOL

You'll have to work with me on this one... my facial shape isn't exactly complimentary to a traditional smokey eye, either. And since I wasn't fully made up, I am JUST showing the eyes. LOL

Sonya's Smokey Brown Eyes Tutorial

Step #1:
First, I swept a light tan across the entire lid (after putting on a base, of course. I use Smashbox Anti-Shine, but you can use any type of base, even a concealer or foundation!).

Step #2:
Although the photo didn't come out very good, I put a lighter color of tan (nearly a nude color) in the inner V of the lid and a darker chocolate color in the outer V of the lid. When doing the outer V for a smokey eye, you want to bring the color slightly higher than the browbone (just over the lip) and out slightly past the natural eyesocket (for most, the end of the browline).
Image

Step #3:
Using just a tad darker brown (I used a dark, mud-colored brown), sweep just above the lashline and fill in the inner portion of your outer V and also go along the crease (I like to use my angle brush to get in there).
Image

Step #4:
Now blend! You'll want all of the colors to look as if you just swept them on that way... no hard lines and no creases.
Image

Step #5:
(the light reflected odd on this one... looks strange somehow) I applied a little off-white colored highlight right below the brow (don't forget to blend that too, before you're done!) and a little bit of Cocoa eyeliner to only the outer portion of the lid, starting near the middle and thickening to the end. Do the same on the lower lid... start in the middle with a thin line and thicken until it meets the upper line.
Image

Step #6:
Although I didn't mascara here, this is where you'll want to do it. Now open your eyes! TADA! Smokey brown!

Thank you. I get a lot of comments on photos, but they're a little bit more subdued in real life.

Ummm....

I THINK it was MAC Malt Eyeshadow (overall), MAC Tan Pigment (inner V), MAC Chocolate Brown (outer V, crease), MAC Vanilla (highlight), and MAC Teddy Eye Kohl. I also used Smashbox's AntiShine in Light for my base on this one... and probably MAC Plushlash in Plushblack if I had any on in the final photo. That's my traditional smoky brown look.
