my ny resolutions were to look afre my skin and drink more water , as being 30 this year and still having teen breakouts pissedme off, so i have bought olay dailky facials for oily skin, use that in the day , then use an olay moisturizer (i use the anti wrinkle night cream bothday and night as i cant afford two seperates) then at night i wash all makeup off with a baby wipe for sensitive skin, use whatever toner i happen to have *whatevers on offer for oily skin when i do my monthly shop* and use the same moisturizer again. i have noticed marked difference in my skin with that ... but am still shit at drinking a lot of water .

any tios on how to improve on taht ? as i still have very clogged pores on my nose.. mingin

I think the water thing is all about habits... If you have coke or juice in the fridge it's almost certain that you'll have a glass of that.. so just don't buy it anymore...
Instead, buy some water bottles, fill'em up and put'em in the fridge, so you always have nice cold water.. Perhaps you could get some lemons to squeeze in too..
I always carry a water bottle anywhere i go, and it automatically makes me drink much more water...
Be sure to switch watter bottle often though. I read an article on how those mineral water bottles are paradise for bacterias if you use them every day...

Hope that helps?

The good thing is, that when you've made it a habit to drink a lot of water, you will automatically keep doing it since you'll get thirsty a lot more often, cos your body is so used to all the water :)
Makes you pee all the time though.. haha

I know I have to do more for my face, all I do is wash it twice a day... but I can't find a moisturizer that works fine with my acne-skin for the hell of it!
And yeah, it sounds dumb, but could anyone explain to me what 'toner' is? No translator will give me a logical answer. xP

My skin is bad,no matter what I do!
At the minute, I wash with Clearasil ultra wash in the morning, then use a toner & mousturiser for greasy skin.
At nights, I use a herbal cleanser to get rid of all my makeup, because the Clearasil won't fetch it all off, then I use Clearasil, toner & mousturiser.
I also use a microdermabrasion kit a few times a week to try and help with scars on my face.
Sometimes I think I use too many harsh products & that must aggravate my skin, but if I ever use non-acne specific products, it gets even worse :(

well products that are acne specific are usually made to purge your skin.
this means that everything is going to come up. and probably all out at once.

When you get all of the buildup out of your skin the blemishes will usually be smaller, simply because there is less time for the infection to build.

(i didnt believe this TOO much when i first started school, but we experiemented by looking at each other with this lamp..um it's kind of like a black light. It's called a Wood's Lamp, and it shows infection, dehydration, and buildup below the skin. after we used the cleanser that we knew was going to be aggressive and pruge, we saw nothing under our skin. The 3 girls that didnt use the more aggressive cleanser still had spots under the lamp.

it was crazy. but it does make sense.)

i'm here to back up everything KelleyCarnivore said but throw in my own two cents....

cleanser is your homegrrl. use it. the basic rule of thumb is foaming cleansers for oily and cream cleansers for dry and sensitive. morning and night if you can commit. if not at least at night and use our good friend toner in the morning.

toner. buy it, use it, love it. my old coworker explains toner perfectly. it's like the rinse cycle when you launder your clothes. yeah, your clothes would be clean without the cycle but all of that left over degergent would fuck up your clothes (skin as the case may be.) witch hazel sans alcohol is great. i also like to use rose water (can be bought at health food stores, specialty grocery stores or markets that have a larger "ethnic" food isle.) ph balancing toner is also great in the summer if you swim in a lot of chlorinated pools. throw some in a spray bottle and lightly mist your body and hair when you get out. your skin will love you for it.

moisturize, even if your oily. a lot of times people will confuse moisture for oil. if you aren't moisturizing properly your skin can over produce oil and you end up with a grease slick on your face. also if your skin is dry make sure you aren't using something that is too rich. it can cause these hard little white bumps that are really clogged pores.

SUNSCREEN is a must. everyday...and i mean every damned day. even if its cloudy and mid winter. UVA rays are a fucking killer. UVB suck too but they're more prevalant in the summer. you can generally get sunscreen in your moisturizer. trust me, when you're in your thirties you'll thank me. nothing tears up skin like the sun.

makeup must be removed nightly. i don't care if you drank a handle of whiskey and are sleeping in your boots. get some fragrance free baby wipes and keep em next to your bed. you gotta get that shit off your face before bed.

water helps skin more than you know. drink at least half your weight in ounces a day. your skin will be happy. plus its good for the rest of ya.

EXTRAS

exfoliating is bomb for getting rid of the top layer of skin. this keeps the skin renewing itself faster thus getting rid of the old and bringing out the new. a couple of times a week is good. DO NOT use anything that hurts or feels sharp (a lot of apricot products can do this.) they're too harsh and cut your face. chemical exfoliators are nice too (aha's, salicylic acids....)

masks are great. they have tons of types for tons of skin probs. clay masks are great for pulling out impurities, avacado masks are amazing for dry skin, yogurt masks are the shit for sensitive.

spot treatments. tea tree oil is great for blemishes as well as salicylic acid ones.

my brain is full of this shit. i've been a licensed cosmetologist for 8 years and have worked everywhere in the beauty industry you can imagine. the industry is shit and they over sell the crap outta everything. i've just come to learn a lot in the last 10 years. the fact that my mom got melanoma when i was little really helped us to educate ourselves in this stuff.
i am not ashamed of what i am but it often makes me sad.

Yes!! I agree. I use a spf 45 moisturizer EVERYDAY and have since I was about 18. I'm almost 30 and I have much younger looking skin then my girlfriends who laugh at me for worshipping sunscreen, haha. Maybe coincidence, but I'll keep using it.

About drinking more water, I agree with AlohaFromHell. I bought a 32oz water bottle and carry it with me everywhere. I've been drinking more water than ever. And it feels good.

Thank you very much to KelleyCarnivore and PrettyGrimm for sharing your knowledge! [= It really helps to have someone just explain it, straight up. Do you guys have any product suggestions? I go to the store and see all of these brands and names and I get scared. Haha thanks again!

i love, love, LOVE Clarins products. french brand, socially conscious, completely vegan. but PRICEY.
the body shop makes amazing stuff as well. they are also a great company that is socially aware, no animal testing yadda, yadda, yadda. less expensive than Clarins but still a bit pricey.
as far as drug store stuff....
i'm a big fan of eucerin spf 30 moisturizer. oil free, won't clog your pores, approved by the skin cancer society, blah, blah, blah. eucerin products are really good for dry skin.
neutrogena products rock for acne prone skin. just don't use too many acne products. a face wash and spot treatment is good. if you use the cleanser, the scrub, the mask, the wipes... you'll kill your skin.
witch hazel (sans alcohol) and rose water make great toners.
now, please by all means STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM CLINIQUE AND BATH AND BODY WORKS!
clinique is just overpriced alcohol and witch hazel in fancy packaging. stuff from the drug store works better and is way more cost effective.
bath and body works is a baaaaaaaaad company. look at the back of one of their products. "final product not tested on animals". it's a cheap disguise using word play to make the consumer think they are buying cruelty free products. it's most certainly not the case. any company that would try to trick you with shifty wording doesn't deserve your money.
