Just though of a new tattoo, or couple of tattoos. An owl, to represent my grandmother's maiden name, and an eagle, to represent my grandfather's last name (my last name). It's what they each translate to. I think I'd want them balanced on me, so one on each side of me (maybe on back of shoulders, or wrists, or ankles...or one behind each ear).
I think that a tattoo after my grandmother would represent the depression and anxiety that I have also been living with, but that I keep fighting, no matter how hard. My grandmother has been depressed for many years, and lived with the aftermath of a childhood of complete poverty and working in factories in Germany in WWII, but she's still here, no matter how many nightmares. The tattoo for my grandfather would represent my inclination for crafting and making things, as he became an engineer and helped design ships for the Navy, and also made many things for my family with his carpentry skills, as well as being a skilled mechanic. They are/were both very dear to me, and I have been trying to think of a tattoo to best represent my grandfather for a while.
Now to think about it for a few more years until I can decide where/what style/if I'm actually going to get them.
