Six years of horological research rewarded by the 2006 “Watch of the Year Prize” in Japan, presented to François-Paul Journe for this Sonnerie Souveraine.,Omega Seamaster 300m Mid-Size
In January in the Aoyama Diamond Hall, the World Photo Press KK association organised the 11th “Watch of the Year” prize-giving ceremony. Each year, this ceremony honours the most interesting watch creations in the following categories: prestige, sports, technique, standard, design, quartz, ladies’, along with the special Watch of the Year award.
This title was won by the Sonnerie Souveraine, a minute repeater watch with large and small strike that took six years of research to develop and resulted in the filing of ten patents. The extremely limited production of this model – around four per year – does not deter fans in Japan, where there is already a five-year waiting list!
Journe went to Tokyo in person to collect the prize and won the hearts of the audience by expressing his thanks in Japanese. In 2004, François-Paul Journe already won the “Watch of the Year” award in Japan for his Tourbillon Souverain model.
The brand opened Montres Journe Japan in 2001, establishing a boutique in one of the finest works of world-famous architect Tadao Ando, the Collezione building, located in Tokyo’s Omotesando district. The brand’s exclusive and limited-edition creations are also represented by specialised retailers in Kobe and Nagoya. Last September the brand open its second F.P.Journe boutique in Asia in Hong Kong.
